Dialectical Behavior | Arizona Addiction Therapy

One of the most significant advances in the treatment of substance abuse and addiction over the past decade, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is being implemented by addiction treatment facilities around the country. Though it was originally developed for the treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) can also be effective in substance abuse treatment.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) can be used in substance abuse treatment to promote abstinence from drugs and alcohol, as well as reduce the negative impacts of a relapse. When used to treat substance abuse, DBT targets the following behaviors that interfere with ones quality of life:

  • Mood Disorders
  • Binge Eating
  • ADHD
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Substance Abuse
  • Behavior
  • Self-Image
  • Thinking
  • Relationships

Understanding & Changing Behavior

While saying addiction is wrong, may technically be an accurate statement, it is not a very persuasive reason for someone dealing with this dilemma to change. When people seek treatment, they know that their behavior needs to change, but may not understand how their addictive behaviors developed in the first place. In DBT, we talk with patients about their behaviors and learn more about what goes into their thought process when feeling the urge to use. By understanding these behaviors, both therapist and client can work to change them and keep moving forward.

DBT is a very hands-on form of therapy. Our team engages patients and treats them as equals, gladly answering questions and sharing their own experiences.

Recovery is a team effort, and you should never feel like you’re doing the work alone. Contact our Arizona rehab center today.
