How long does alcohol rehab usually take?

Alcohol rehab programs come in three different types, each of which requires a different amount of time to complete.

  1.  Inpatient alcohol rehabilitation – This type of program is residential in nature, with recovering alcoholics typically spending 28-30 days in a facility. Each week, they undergo several psychotherapy and counseling sessions and engage in community services or education.
  1.  Long-term inpatient alcohol rehab – Alcohol withdrawal can be dangerous; anyone with a severe alcohol addiction needs intensive treatment. Long-term rehab is typically recommended since long-term abstinence typically requires at least 90 sober days to be secured.
  1.  Outpatient alcohol rehabilitation – Primarily used after inpatient rehab, outpatient treatment does not require the patient to live in the facility. They do, however, have to commit themselves as much as before by attending regularly and participating.

Alcohol Rehabilitation Duration and Average Time

On average, inpatient rehab lasts a month, outpatient 10-12 weeks.

Outpatient rehab is highly effective and, for those who can’t afford to take a break from their responsibilities, a godsend. However, it still requires commitment and motivation. Further, some addicts simply have to get out of their environment in order to conquer their illness. It’s not just the substances that drive our addictions; it’s how they play into our lives.

Taking a timeout is sometimes a necessary evil.

Nearly all alcohol rehabilitation programs can be separated into a few distinct stages.

Upon entering a screen program, a patient can expect a psychological and medical screening, which includes drug testing. Next comes detox, the period in which, safely under medical supervision, their body can expel all traces of drugs. Weeks 1-4 consist of daily therapy and counseling sessions, throughout which the patient learns how to handle his or her psychological cravings, the cravings that he or she will have to continue fighting for some time.

Addiction isn’t treatment may not be quick, but it will be worthwhile. Blueprints for Recovery believes in a drug-free life for everyone.  Contact us to get started.
